Candle Wick Guide

Candle Wick Guide
When it comes to hand-pouring candles, selecting the correct wick is crucial for ensuring a clean and even burn. With so many options available, how do you know which wick is the right choice for your specific candle-making project? Let this Candle Wick Guide be your go-to resource for all things wick-related.
Understanding Wick Sizes
Did you know that wicks come in different sizes to accommodate various candle diameters? The size of the wick directly impacts how your candle burns. A wick that is too small may result in a tunneling effect, while a wick that is too large can cause excessive smoking. It's essential to match the wick size to the diameter of your candle for optimal performance.
Consulting the Wick Sizing Chart
Feeling overwhelmed by the multitude of wick options available? Don't worry – Lanco Candle Supply offers wick sizing charts to simplify the selection process. This chart provide recommendations based on factors like candle diameter, wax type, and desired burn time. By consulting a wick sizing chart, you can make an informed decision and achieve the desired burn performance for your handpoured candles.

Eco Wicks
ECO Wicks are constructed as flat, coreless wicks. ECO wicks improve burn stability and wick curling. The ECO wicks are made of cotton and interwoven with specially treated paper filaments, which help with the wick rigidity. The ECO Series Wicks reduce the afterglow commonly seen in other paper wicks. ECO wicks have self-trimming capabilities and allow for a decrease in mushrooming and soot.

CD Wicks
Stabilo Wicks (also know as CD wicks) are a flat braided cotton wick with paper fibers woven throughout. These are designed to promote maximum and consistent capillary action while ensuring a wick trimming flame posture. Stabilo wicks are often used in tealights, votives, pillars and containers because they provide increased rigidity and enhanced burning properties in all types of waxes. They are available in 6” length and are pre-tabbed with a 6mm safety clip

Testing and Tweaking
Even with all the information at your disposal, it's essential to conduct test burns to ensure the chosen wick performs as expected. Make a few sample candles using different wick sizes, materials, or treatments, and observe how they burn. Adjustments may be necessary to achieve the ideal burn pool size, flame height, and overall burn quality. Remember, candle making is as much a science as it is an art.
With the insights provided in this Candle Wick Guide, you can confidently navigate the world of wicks and select the perfect one for your handpoured candles.
